Community group aims to ‘rebuild’ homes

SARATOGA SPRINGS — A local affiliate of a national volunteer organization has formed to help repair homes of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners in Saratoga County .

Rebuilding Together Saratoga County Inc., part of the national group Rebuilding Together, is making plans to rehabilitate five homes in April .

Anyone interested in learning more about the group or taking part in a project is welcome to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the New England-Presbyterian Church on Regent Street in Saratoga Springs .

This nonprofit, nonsectarian organization is the nation’s largest volunteer home rehabilitation program.

After choosing projects, planning and fund raising, volunteers tackle the projects on National Rebuilding Day, the last Saturday in April .

In 2003, almost 250 affiliates across the nation rehabilitated more than 8,050 houses and non-profit community center. Work can range from painting and simple repairs to handicap access, flooring and roofing.

Officers for the local Rebuilding group are: President Michelle Larkin , Vice President Dave Robertson , Treasurer Joel Dziengieliwski , and Secretary Lorraine Wilson.
