The Larkin Family Interests - Shane at Boy Scout Camp, July 2004

Introduction

These photos are from Shane's Boy Scout camp, July 2004. Shane is Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth leadership position in the Troop. It was a successful week.

The Boy Scout camp is Wakpominee, located in Ft. Ann, Washington Co., NY, not far from Lake George. It is one of the nicest camps that BSA Twin Rivers Council owns. Camping there was our second year in a row going to this one.

Aside from being nicely out of the way, it offers a beautiful little lake, nearby mountains to hike and pretty good food. The boys stay for a full week, Sunday through Saturday.

As they get older some of the boys go to work at the camp as counselors. Shane may do that when he gets a little older.

Our Group

Pictured are the 19 boys and one girl (a Venture Scout) who attended camp.

Also here are our Scoutmaster Jeff Hannon: an assistant, Jim Yawman: and our Committee Chair John Valente.

The photo was taken in our campsite.

Shane is in the back row partially obscured (7th from right).

The Lake

This is where some of our boys recieved instruction in lifesaving.

One can take canoeing, rowing, sailing, lifesaving or the basic water safety.

The daily flag ceremony

Each morning and evening the flags are raised and lowered, respectively, in the main meeting area of the camp. This in is addition to flags maintained at each campsite.

Shane, being our Troop Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), is leading this detail. His back is to the camera.

SPL is the top youth leadership position in the Troop and is an elected position.
