SCHUYLERVILLE -- Lake George gave Schuylerville its best shot Friday. The host Black Horses simply had a bigger gun.

Providing the firepower for Schuylerville was junior running back Shane Larkin, who ran up 222 yards on just 11 carries. But finding the target, or in this case the end zone five times, was the difference as Larkin powered the Black Horses to a 31-14 Class C North Division win over Lake George.

"It was a solid job," Schuylerville coach Greg O'Connor said. "Lake George came out and I thought they were a pretty good team -- better then I expected."

Schuylerville didn't waste a lot of time establishing control against the Warriors.

On the game's third play, Larkin broke loose for a 35-yard touchdown run at the 10:36 mark. Scoring runs by Larkin of 2, 15 and 55 yards helped the Black Horses to a 28-0 lead at intermission.

"The whole team came together on offense, especially the line," Larkin said. "They just keep going downfield."

"He is a freight train and they've got some guys that can block," Lake George coach Jeff Bennett said of Larkin. "He was running over his guys and our guys."

Lake George had its opportunities in the first half, particularly in the second quarter. Twice, the Warriors drove into Schuylerville territory, the second drive reaching the Black Horses' 29. Both threats were ended by interceptions.

"We were trying to make plays," Bennett said. "Those mistakes we don't worry about. The ones we worry about are when we don't know who we're blocking."

After Schuylerville added to its advantage with a Larkin 2-yard third-quarter run, Lake George found a little offense in the final stanza.

The Warriors sandwiched scoring runs of 24 and 65 yards from Jake Nelson around a 42-yard touchdown run from Schuylerville's Steve Backus to create the final margin. Nelson finished the night with a team-high 172 yards on 20 carries.
