SCHUYLERVILLE Revenge was on the mind of the Schuylerville Black Horses during the week leading up to Friday night's clash with rival Cambridge, the team that handed Schuylerville a 21-20 loss in the 2007 Class C Super Bowl.

In fact, they might have been too keyed up.

Schuylerville came out sluggish and fell behind 10-0 before taking over to post a 49-23 win in front of a loud homecoming crowd and go undefeated in its regular season.

Brad Lyon led Schuylerville (7-0, 5-0) with 188 yards rushing on 12 carries and quarterback Austin Batemen scored twice for the Black Horses, ranked eighth in the state in the Class C polls.

"Homecoming, too much going on, too much excitement," Schuylerville coach Greg O'Connor said. "We talked all week about guarding against it. The kids did their best to control their emotions, but it is hard. We can learn from it. Each week in the playoffs, we are going to play against quality clubs like Cambridge."

Cambridge (4-3, 3-2) took control of the game's first 18 minutes and jumped to the 10-0 lead. The Indians held Schuylerville to just 11 total yards while totaling 182 yards on offense.

Indians quarterback Kyle Parmenter found wideout Jesse Lybert in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the first quarter, and freshman kicker Will Bromirski added a 22-yard field goal midway through the second quarter to give Cambridge the early lead. On the ensuing drive, the Black Horses finally got the running game going.

Lyon started the drive with an 11-yard run — Schuylerville's first first down in the game — and teamed with Shane Larkin as the Black Horses went on an eight-play, 77-yard drive, culminated by Larkin's 1-yard touchdown run.

After Cambridge turned the ball over on downs, Lyon's 18-yard run gave Schuylerville the lead for good at 14-10. The touchdowns by Larkin and Lyon were just 2:14 apart.

"I think with it being homecoming we wasted a lot of energy in school," Lyon said. "We came out, and our line started gashing people, and the receivers helped out blocking. We had seniors from last year coming home from different colleges and different states to watch us play this game. It just means so much."

The Black Horses took control in the second half and quickly put the score out of reach.

Lyon's 22-yard touchdown run on the opening drive made the score 21-10. After Greg Peterson blocked a Cambridge punt deep in Indians territory, Bateman scored on a 1-yard run to increase the lead to 28-10.

After Parmenter's 1-yard run cut it to 35-17, any hopes of an Indians comeback were dashed when Claeton Corsetti returned the subsequent kickoff 91 yards down the left sideline for a touchdown and a 42-17 Black Horse advantage.
