Section II football playoff pairings announced

With little fuss or fanfare, the schedule for the Section II Football Tournament was announced Sunday.

First-round play in Classes AA, A, B and C begins this weekend.

The top four teams in each division make sectionals and cross over according to their seeding, which made for very easy scheduling.

Class D still has one week of regular-season play remaining, with semifinals set for the following weekend.

Class C North champion Schuylerville (7-0) hosts Class C South fourth seed Tamarac (4-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Also Friday night, Class AA Empire champ Saratoga Springs (6-1) is at home against Columbia (3-4), the fourth seed in Class AA Liberty; Ballston Spa (4-3) is at Class AA Liberty champ Schenectady (6-1); and in Class C, Corinth (3-4) travels to Class C South champ Chatham (7-0) and Hoosick Falls (6-1) hosts Watervliet (5-2).

On Saturday, Class B West runner-up Hudson Falls (6-1) is home against Albany Academy (4-3) at 1:30 p.m., while Class A Northwest third seed Glens Falls (4-3) plays at Troy (6-1). Also Saturday, Cambridge (4-3) plays at Fonda (6-1) in Class C at 1 p.m.

Crossover games were also announced for non-playoff qualifiers.

Queensbury plays at Mohonasen on Friday at 7 p.m., while on Saturday, South Glens Falls hosts Scotia at 1:30 p.m., and Granville is home against Voorheesville at 1 p.m.
