TONIGHT'S H.S. FOOTBALL MATCHUPS
CLASS C QUARTERFINALS

Coxsackie-Athens (5-2) at Schuylerville (6-1), 7 p.m.

Coxsackie-Athens: The Indians are fresh off a 20-14 victory over Voorheesville that was the highlight of a solid season under first-year head coach Roy Deyo. They are led by senior quarterback Ryan Kane, an outstanding runner who carries the offense on his shoulders. Kane has rushed for 854 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Coxsackie runs a spread-option offense similar to Schuylerville, with Kane operating almost exclusively from the shotgun. "We moved him from tailback this season -- he's a senior, he understands the game and he just fit in real well with our style of offense," Deyo said. "We want to put the ball in our best athlete's hands, and that's him."

Schuylerville: The Black Horses have been on a tear, winning six straight since their Week 1 loss to Cambridge. Sophomore QB Austin Bateman has racked up 1,108 yards total offense and has been responsible for 12 TDs. Protected by a strong line, running backs Shane Larkin and Anthony Casimano have piled up another 1,184 yards and 20 TDs on the ground. "They do a lot of what we do," head coach Greg O'Connor said. "They've got a real good quarterback. I don't know if we've seen anybody that quick this year. We'll want to keep them off-balance, establish our ground game and mix it up with the pass. We feel good about where we're at, and we'll see if we continue to improve."

Fast fact: This is the first-ever meeting of these teams in football.
