Division I softball: Coventry takes title in extra-inning win

Coventry strikes early, downs Bay View in DI softball playoffs

Thanks in part to Hannah Cole's three-run triple, Coventry jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, defeating Bay View, 8-2, in a winners' bracket game of the Division I Softball Championships, tonight at Rhode Island College.

Katelyn Carroll and Ashley Olson each had a pair of hits in leading the Oakers' 10-hit attack. Elise Fortier scattered four hits and struck out three en route to the win, which puts Coventry in the winners'-bracket final opposite North Kingstown, which edged Cumberland, 4-3, earlier in the night. They will play Monday night at 7:30 at RIC.
