A Festival of Lights |
| The Festival of Lights was spectacular tonight, truly awesome!
I arrived home only a few minutes ago from an afternoon with my niece, Paige, who lives up off Atlee Road in Hanover County. As I turned into my driveway and glanced up at the sky, I couldn't understand what I was seeing. The sky appeared to have hundreds of shooting stars. I pulled into the carport, got out and walked back to a clear space where I could stand quietly and gaze up at the sky. It took another full minute to realize that the hundreds of shooting stars were actually fireflies way, way, way up above the trees and appeared to be part of the star-studded sky itself. It was so exciting to see that I didn't want to come into the house and I stood for a few minutes absolutely enraptured. However, the dogs pleaded to be fed so in we all came and I did the essential things one always has to do after being gone more than half the day. As soon as the dogs finished their dinner, we went back outside. By this time many of the lightening bugs had descended into the tops of the trees and you would have been absolutely ecstatic with the display! All the trees were covered with blinking clear lights. .. like a bunch of Christmas trees decorated with only clear white blinking lights. I wanted so much for you to see them, to feel the joy of their beauty. I didn't come back into the house for the longest time .. I didn't want to let go of the beauty, of the sheer magic of the light. Amelia Courthouse, Va |
