Maureen Larkin Wright - Welcome to My Back Yard

March Winds

Good morning, Big Brother,

"The March wind doth blow, and we shall have snow
and what will the robins do then, poor things?
They'll hide their heads under their wings, poor things,
they'll hide their heads under their wings."

The March wind certainly is blowing this morning! The nearby pine trees, planted by the lumber company for their timber value, are swaying back and forth in response to the wind. Its a ritual dance of sorts, a joyful celebration of the month of March.

My little corner of Virginia loves the month of March with its blustery winds blowing the rain sideways and washing the outside of the windows, the gray skies that suddenly give way to a brilliant blue, the temperatures which change from 70 degrees one day to 40 degrees the next, the emergence of daffodil and crocus leaves but never their buds this early. The tree limbs and branches still appear black against the sky, their bark hasn't yet begun to turn the softer shade of springtime brown.

The rain has stopped for the present, the wind has died down and the robins are back foraging the front lawn for whatever robins eat at this time of the year. Oops, its raining again .. a soft, gentle fine rain with lots of snowflakes mixed in.

Gosh, it is so exciting! I am so very fortunate to live in the country, to be able to become one with nature.

You know, is very difficult to accomplish anything with my face plastered against the window.
