The Best Big Brother Ever

By Daniel Brian Larkin, Monday Apr 26, 2004

My brother Shane was born on Tracy's birthday in the year 1958. So, for those of you who are not too quick on the math uptake (like me), that makes us 364 days apart in age. For one day of the year Shane and I were the "same age."

Shane was always such a good sport about it. He would let me win the wrestling matches and be a very good big brother, which, from my perspective, was one of Shane's finest qualities, of which he had many.

He was a natural good big brother to me. He protected me and included me in his friendships and life in general.

For those of you who didn't know Shane, he was an aspiring artist. A number of us have some of his works in our homes.

Shane was born at Hudson [Hospital], NY, which is also where our brother Ru was born and is now teaching. Shane passed on August 14, 1975 in Saratoga County from fatal injuries sustained in an automobile crash.

He will always be my big brother and the best big brother ever.

Love

Dan

Shane was a very gentle person

I too remember you, Shane. Shane was a very gentle person, a kind and loving person and he had a beautiful and engaging smile. He blushed easily which was lovely to observe. He was being tutored by his father in Irish history and he could tell me, even at an early age, about the life of his grandfather, Charles. Shane was a talented artist and left behind many intricately detailed sketches. Dan can tell us more about that .. maybe even tonight.

Love, Aunt Maureen
