Another activity at White Sands are Ranger-led nature hikes. 

Here, Elizabeth's group is returning at sunset to their gathering point at the Sunset Stroll turn-off.

Note the sand banks behind the cars where the sand has been plowed, like snow, from the road to give space for parking.

Trail Head

The Sunset Stroll Nature Trail Walk goes through the "dunes to look at the geology, plants and animals of the dune field. Some climbing on the dunes is involved. The walk is timed to end at sunset in order to provide good photographic opportunities."
